The Vote Solar Initiative was formed in 2001 by two young activists who helped
draft a ballot initiative in San Francisco allocating $100 million in bonds
for solar arrays on municipal buildings. After passage of the initiative, the
two men quit their jobs and hit the road to promote "public" solar to cities
and states around the country. A lot has changed in the five years since the
Vote Solar Initiative was born. Rapid growth in the industry has changed the
focus of the organization's lobbying efforts. Vote Solar co-founder Adam
Browning joins us on this week's episode of Inside Renewable Energy to share
his experiences and give us an assessment of the solar industry. He'll outline
the major barriers that are holding up solar and how they can be broken down.
Also in the podcast: Oak Ridge National Laboratory has started field testing
its new Solar Hybrid Lighting for large retail stores. Melissa Lapsa, Manager
of the Solar Technologies Program at ORNL, talks to us about the applications
and implications of Solar Hybrid Lighting.
